Just as when one is walking

Just as when one is walking along the shore of a sea that is agitated tumultuous and bathed in sunlight and one experiences acutely the pleasure joy of caressing with one's eyes its undulating green flanks that perpetually furrow, advance leap and slap their golden foam and to breathe in the froth and its odour and humidity - even though this were not the same sensation that one might have wished to receive from it - to bathe in it perhaps or take a boat - likewise he remained hour after hour leant over a bottle of beer from which he could not wet his lips watching the flat agitated surface upon which thickened the milky sheets, his nostrils over the neck of the bottle breathing in its bitter and fresh odour.
