After a dinner given the day before yesterday by M. Marcel Proust, and
which was not followed by a reception, Mlle Laparcerie recited, with
incomparable art, the poetry of Anatole France, Comtesse Mathieu de
Noailles, and some unpublished sonnets, extracts from a volume about
Versailles by Comte Robert de Montesquiou.
Following which Comte de Montesquiou himself recited some pieces from
this collection.
The guests were:
Comtesse N. Potocka, Comte and Comtesse M. de Noailles, Mme de Brantes,
Comtesse de Briey, Mme Strauss [sic], Prince G. Borghèse, Marquis
de Castellane, M. Anatole France, Mlle and M. Léon Bailby, Monsieurs Jean
Béraud, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, Gabriel Fauré, Comte Robert de
Montesquiou, Doctor and Mme Proust, Fernand Vandérem, Baronne Deslande,
Comte Bernard de Gontaut-Biron, Abel Hermant, Albert Flament.
Nos Echos, La Presse, 27 April 1899.
Possibly drafted by Proust, as one of the guests, Léon Bailby, was the
editor of La Presse. It matches word for word the note in Le
Gaulois, 26 April 1899 but with the addition of the names Abel
Hermant and Albert Flament.
