   La Liberté 25 May 1903. 

   Letter to Louis d'Albufera, 9 June 1903: "[...]  "I saw my friend Robert de Flers there, (the author of Sire de Vergy) who I had sent the other evening to the Figaro to push for the inclusion of the note about the Mathurins. As I hadn't seen him since I stayed a moment to thank him and he told me that he had also asked the columnist at the Figaro to recommend Mlle de Mornand to his colleagues - and for his part, making use of his close ties with La Liberté (where he is the literary critic) he had put in a little word about Mademoiselle de Mornand. [...]"

   The note in La Liberté then was included at Proust's instigation if not perhaps in his actual words.
