Louisette has read enough poetry
Her eyes close ... but her heart stirs
And into her two open arms
She calls a certain Marquis
With mind and heart exquisite alike
And whose fine nose conquered her.
These six lines were suppressed from the version first published
in Les Nouvelles littéraires, 6 Oct 1929 and subsequently in various
editions of correspondence. They occur immediately before the last verse
"The bed is blue, the salon red". Presumably Louisa de Mornand
suppressed these lines so as not to undermine her claim that she had had
a sexual relationship with Proust. From Bulletin d'informations
