He had staying with him a French writer who compared d'Annunzio wanting to connect those scattered fragments about Italy to Dante or even to Virgil. He did a very successful pastiche of Virgil in which Aeneas goes off to Fiume and evokes d'Annunzio. The writer is called Marcel but I no longer remember his surname.
