My once peaceful heart

My once peaceful heart, elects since this evening
To hate for ever lady Spinelly
And what I would not give to see an omnibus
On top of the body of the man they call Dolfus

From Correspondance de Marcel Proust, Tome VIII, p.234. Letter to Max Daireaux. "Dear friend you didn't get my letter, you still don't know the poem I sent you which begins with these lines." It seems the rest of the poem has been lost. The letter was included in Sotheby's auction, Livres et manuscrits, Paris, 24 May 2018 where the catalogue gave a slightly different wording to Kolb. "Pour te haïr toujours la dame Spinelly" instead of "Pour la haïr toujours la dame Spinelly". I agree with Kolb.
